The information we collect
Information you give us
- Contact and quote forms: your name, email address, business name, website address, the type of project, your timeframe or budget, and anything you write in your message.
- Newsletter sign-up: your email address, if you sign up using the newsletter form.
- Emails, calls and messages: your contact details and whatever you choose to tell us.
- Blog comments: where comments are open, your name, email address, any website you enter and your comment.
- Client work: if you become a client, the contact, billing and project information needed to deliver the work, and any access details you give us for your website or accounts.
Information collected automatically
- Technical information: like most websites, our web server records basic information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, so the site can run securely.
- Analytics and advertising information: only if you accept analytics or advertising cookies, Google Analytics and Google Ads collect information about how you use the site. This includes the pages you view, your device and browser, your approximate location, and whether you sent an enquiry after clicking one of our ads.
How we use your information, and our lawful bases
- Replying to enquiries and preparing quotes: to take steps you have asked for before entering into a contract, and our legitimate interest in replying to people who contact us.
- Delivering work, invoicing and support for clients: to perform our contract with you.
- Sending our newsletter: your consent. We have not started sending a newsletter yet. If you sign up, we keep your email address and only use it to send the newsletter once it starts. Every newsletter will include an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to remove your address at any time.
- Website analytics and measuring our advertising: your consent, given through the cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time.
- Keeping the website secure, blocking spam and fixing problems: our legitimate interest in running a safe, working website.
- Keeping business and tax records: to meet our legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use it for automated decision-making that has legal or similarly significant effects on you.
Who we share it with
We only share personal information with organisations that help us run the website and the business, and only what they need:
- Our website hosting provider, which stores the website, form submissions and server logs.
- Email providers we use to send and receive email, including form notifications.
- Google (Google Analytics, Google Ads and the Google tag), only if you accept analytics or advertising cookies.
- Automattic (Akismet), which checks blog comments for spam.
- Professional advisers, such as an accountant, where needed, and public authorities where the law requires it.
Links to our social media profiles take you to those websites, which have their own privacy policies.
International transfers
Some of these providers, including Google and Automattic, may process information outside the UK, for example in the United States. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards UK law requires, such as UK adequacy regulations (including the UK–US data bridge) or approved contract terms.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that don’t lead to work: up to 2 years after our last contact.
- Client records: for the length of the work, then up to 6 years to meet tax and accounting rules.
- Newsletter sign-ups: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove your address.
- Blog comments: for as long as the comment is published.
- Google Analytics data: no longer than 14 months.
- Cookie consent records: for as long as we need to show the choice you made.
When information is no longer needed, it is deleted or anonymised.
